Life Is No Bed of Roses: From Virginia College to Reid State
Reid State’s practical nursing program aims to prepare graduates to practice safe, competent, patient-centered care in an increasingly complex and rapidly changing health care system. Unfortunately, the students pictured got a taste of how things can change in an instant. One day they were attending classes at Virgina College and working towards their goal of becoming nurses and the next day they arrived to school and find the doors locked and their nursing school is no more as of January 2019.
They were devastated emotionally and financially due to the closure and unsure how they would complete their education.
They were fortunate to connect with the Monroeville Career Center and the staff assisted them with obtaining WIOA funding. As a result, they completed the program and their accomplishments recognized at their pinning ceremony in December 2019.
